Moving to Belgium

Plan the handover, as well as the journey to Belgium.

Start with the town or municipality and the practical arrangements for getting your belongings into the property.

Make the delivery location unambiguous

Give the town, street or area and postcode when available. Include the building entrance details if these help identify access. If different people manage the property and receive the belongings, explain who can confirm arrangements. Keep private addresses out of public questions and reviews.

Agree who can receive the delivery

Think about keys, the person meeting the vehicle and building access times. Your arrival in the country is not necessarily the day you can receive furniture. Explain constraints during assessment and ask what the proposal assumes. Update the contact handling your enquiry if plans change.

Belongings and access go together

For a flat, record the floor and lift; for large furniture, note dimensions when known. Mention delicate pieces needing white glove assessment. The handling plan depends on the belongings and the path into the home.

Prepare for the direction of your move

Describe departures, UK returns and other international routes with both countries. Ask which documents, transport arrangements and delivery services apply. The enquiry is an assessment request, not a confirmed booking or customs entitlement.

Check the current Belgian requirements

For a move from outside the EU, start with Belgian customs guidance on moving from a non-EU country. British citizens can also consult GOV.UK's Living in Belgium guidance. Check the direction of your journey and applicable conditions; the enquiry does not establish entitlement to relief.
