Make the Canadian collection clear
Give the province, town and postal code when known, with stairs, lift access and the place a vehicle can unload. Explain whether you will be present or someone else will hand over the belongings after you leave. Include that person's role and any limits on access when discussing the arrangements. Collection from your home and transport from a departure point should be distinguished in the quotation.
Separate your travel date from the belongings' arrival
Your flight to the UK does not set the delivery date for your furniture. Tell us when the Canadian property must be cleared and when the UK home will have keys and someone available to receive the shipment. If the address is unsettled, give the town or area and explain the uncertainty. Ask which transport arrangements suit the assessed load and how the collection and delivery stages are expected to fit together.
Check UK relief before relying on it
Transfer of residence relief may apply when you move your normal home to the UK, subject to HMRC's conditions. HMRC approval is required before claiming that relief. Check the official guidance for your circumstances, including whether you are moving to Great Britain or Northern Ireland. Returning to the UK or owning the belongings already does not by itself establish entitlement. Agree who prepares and submits the import documents.
Prepare a useful inventory and packing brief
List what you will bring from Canada, including estimated boxes and furniture that may need dismantling. Flag new purchases, fragile pieces and anything whose suitability for the UK home needs checking. You can upload a list, photographs or other supporting information instead of writing it all again. Keep passports and documents you need for travel out of the shipment.
- The belongings being collected and anything still undecided.
- Packing requirements and particular-item care.
- UK postcode when known, floors, lifts and unloading access.
Agree who handles UK delivery
Check whether the proposal includes delivery to your property, unloading and any unpacking or placement you request. Clarify the person receiving it, document responsibilities and charges outside the quoted scope. Keep the inventory and receiving contact current if plans change. Any later address or access change may need the proposal to be reviewed.
Your questions answered
Can I enquire while I am still living in Canada?
Yes. The enquiry starts with Canada and United Kingdom selected, and both remain editable. Add your contact details, collection town, UK destination area, belongings and the timing you know.
Do I need a complete UK address to begin?
No. Give the intended town or area and explain when you expect to know more. The final address, access and receiving arrangements need to be confirmed before an agreed delivery plan.
Can I request currency exchange contact with this move?
Yes. Tick the currency exchange option in the moving enquiry. Our exchange partner can contact you using the information provided, without a separate form.
Check the current UK requirements
Use GOV.UK's guidance on moving personal belongings to the UK and HMRC's transfer of residence guidance. Check the conditions for your circumstances and whether your home will be in Great Britain or Northern Ireland. Agree document responsibilities in your moving proposal.
